COMMUNITY ISSUES
Thank you to Your TV for recording candidate comments on community issues at the Candidates Night at the Grande

The Cassellholme redevelopment, mandated for redevelopment by the Province, has been an
ongoing issue for North Bay Council and all of the
nine member Municipalities for the past ten years.
Estimated cost of the project is $63 million and the redevelopment has the full support of our MPP, and Minister of Finance , Vic Fedeli.
Cassellholme has been working hard to contain
budget increases, 0, 0, 1 & 1.5% respectively in each
of the last four years, and also to find a new
enterprize model that will subsidize the cost of operations
for the remaining Municipalities as four have asked to leave and support the Mattawa based Algonquin long term care home. Mayne has Chaired the Casselholme Board since 2014.

Cannabis Legalization On September 4, 2018, North Bay Council will have an initial vote to opt in to Provincial storefront cannabis sales in the community. While "pot" will be available for legal purchase online by October 17, the Province won't be licensing local storefront sales until the Spring of 2019. Bringing the retail cannabis market into the mainstream economy, and decriminalizing it, is a reasonable direction to take for something that has been so widely available in our communities for decades. Nonetheless, education about the medical risks of the new hybrid pot that is marketed and regulations for its safe use and policing remain to be worked out.

The Sam Jacks Recreation Center on Gertrude St.
needs to be replaced as the building has been
determined to need significant is upgrades and it will be
less expensive to build a new community center rather
than repair the existing one. A new twin pad facility has
been decided as the best replacement option.
As a member of the Relocation Committee, under
Chair Mark King, a number of locations are being
considered.
Subject to final cost comparisons, Mayne is
optimistic that a community center being closed in West
Ferris will be replaced with a new community center in West Ferris and that it should be a true multi-use community center, not just an arena, and built where it can best support the West Ferris economy.

Infrastructure should be an ongoing priority for the City
of North Bay, and inspite of being vital to the use and
growth of our community, is a frequent target of budget
cuts. My own position is that it will be less expensive in
the long term to invest in roads, sewer, water and
bridge repairs before they wear out on a crisis basis
and that we need to maintain and grow the level of
work we do.
